Subliminal Excavations

This series of works on paper is concerned with the memories, thoughts and feelings existing just beneath the surface of conscious experience. Despite our attempts to cover them over with the illusion of reality we create for ourselves, these memories persist in our minds and bodies. Like a palimpsest on an ancient parchment, they continue to come through to the surface in a distorted form and affect the choices we make in life.
These translucent works are meant to be viewed with a light source behind them to reveal thge images beneath the surface. They are created by drawing with twine, paint and found objects beneath layers of rice paper.
