Ellie's thoughts about the Fendi Series...At the end of 2006 I had become obsessed with the night. I envisioned an architectural abstraction based on earlier works. In the holiday garbed Fendi building on Fifth Avenue I saw the possibilities for a beautiful reflective capture full of contrast in both form and expression. I reduced the structure to its bare necessities. The facade began to float in space. I removed color and continued to study the composition. This led to a series where I felt closer to the architectural form minus its normal distractions. I continued to play with light and color as if in an impressionist plein air series a la Monet where the changing atmosphere and form create varied emotional effects. The Fendi series is a marriage of light, shadow and texture. The building becomes both matter and energy or body & soul. It could be considered a playful visual metaphor for the human spirit.
