In this modern and digital world we are living in today, my preference still remains black and white photography. There is something about the nature of the art that makes me feel as though I am truly creating something from my own hands and imagination. This medium gives you total control from the beginning to the end of the process, with opportunity along the way to manipulate what you want. I especially like to explore the science of photography and experiment in alternative processing and printing methods. A wise teacher once told me "You must first know the rules to break them." Most of my work is simple yet abstract. I like to take something new, mysterious and unique; something you might have to study to see how I created the final print and what I did along the way to arrive at the culmination of the work. I like to venture out anywhere with my camera looking for simple and overlooked things in the world and get a litlle closer. I look for patterns, shapes and textures in ordinary objects that might not look so beautiful to the naked eye, but appear abstract and interesting through my lens.
Originally from Michigan, I have been living in Brooklyn, New York for the past four years. I completed my bachelor's of arts degree at Brooklyn College with a concentration in photography this spring. I also studied black and white photography at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California from 2002-2003. I am planning on attending a graduate school this fall at Columbia College in Chicago, pursuing a master's degree in art education.
