Timothy Myles at Micro Museum |
All the drawings in this exhibition are ink, freehand drawings recorded over the last two and a half years. They are not drawn from photographs. Each drawing is then digitally scanned and reproduced for display and a location map is added.
Although the collection is mainly comprised of images and maps of New York City there are many made from trips taken around the country. Despite the appearance of a record of Landmarked buildings the collection is actually indiscriminate in architectural style; significant for a young architect. Instead it is merely a record of locations where events have taken place that are significant to the artist. This is not to diminish the work nor the choice of buildings or views, however it is significant that the choices are visual landmarks used for orientation both geographically as well as mentally. While not recording the actual events they seek to serve as a visual reminder. These locations are then compressed together to produce a mapping of the life of the artist over the duration of the project.
Timothy Myles is an architect and artist living and working in New York. He has studied architecture at the Architectural Association in London and at Columbia University in New York and has taught at Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design.
