Emma Trincal-Artist Statement

I am a self-taught artist. Colors play a significant role in the rhythm of my work, which has quickly evolved from figurative into abstraction, in the European tradition of Expressionism and Fauvism.

I started painting in Paris at age 24.

I have always been a writer as well as a painter. What I truly like about painting is that I can add more and more layers and suddenly annihilate most of it. There is no regret, no fear to fail. Addition, subtraction: the sum should be zero. But it's not. Everything starts from there, everything emerges from that emptiness: the colors, the forms.

Duality is a key word in my work as well as in my life: writing and painting; Europe and America; working in journalism while maintaining my identity as an artist.

Living in three cities, Paris, Miami and New York, I have been infused with three very different cultures (European, Latin and American). And each of these cities is infused with their own special light.

I have no particular message, besides: let the colors define the action. Let them be the vision.

I do not believe artists should be cut off from the world. It's by living a full life that one finds inspiration.
